John Edmund Schrup died September 14, 2018, in Taos, NM; surrounded by family, after a brief illness. He was born April 25, 1937 in Madison, WI. He graduated in 1955 from Edgewood High School. From 1957-58, he was a Dominican Friars Novitiate in Winona, MN, before graduating in 1961 with a degree in Art from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He received his MA and MFA from the same university in 1964. He taught from 1964-1966 as an Instructor of Drawing and Painting at Wichita State University, in Wichita, KS. From 1966-1970, he was an Associate Professor of Drawing and Painting at the University of Dallas, in Irving, TX, where he met Sara Jane (Sally) Tobin. They were married May 11, 1968 in Dallas, TX. He was from 1970-1992 a Professor of Drawing, Painting and Design at El Centro College in Dallas, TX. He retired from teaching in 1992 to pursue studio work in Taos, NM.
John is survived by children Meredith Elizabeth, of Cedar Creek, TX and John Charles, of Austin, TX; daughters-in-law Ann David and Ivy Baron; grandsons Isaac Baron and Sam Baron; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Myrtle Marie and Edmund Carl Schrup; sister, Jean Marie Coenen; and his wife of 40 years, Sally.
