John H. Monlux, RPT, passed away on Dec 9th, 2015. He passed away in his home in Taos New Mexico. He was 89 years old. John was born in Cedaredge CO, in 1926 to Roe Earl Monlux & Myrtle Ester Eshe. He moved to Everet, Wa in 1932. He played high school foorbal and was named all state running back. He joined the Navy in his junior year at the age of 17. He was assigned to combat duty on a Destroyer USS Luetze as a radio Man. He experienced numerous battles and invasions; including Okinawa & Iwo Jim and survived multiple typhoons. In May 1945, he volunteered to transfer to the Artic Circle on Destroyer USS Storm. He saved a pilot .who crashed in the ocean. There no "wet suits" at that time. He attended Washington State Univ & graduated in the 1950s with a degree in BioScience, He played football and was a athletic trainer. He attended Stanford Univ, and graduated in 1951 with a degree in Physical Therapy. He was the chief therapist. at the San Bernardino hospital during the Polio outbreak in California. He later opened his private PT office in San Bernardino Calif., he was the 1st therapist in private practice in the county. He was also one of the 1st private therapists to do electrical testing (EMG) for nerve injuries. He also taught a graduate course at USC and was a consultant to the Naval Hospital in San Diego, CA. In 1989 he served as a instructor for Martin Luther King J., Charles Drew Medical Center in Watts, where he trained 2 PTS in EMG studies. After more than 40 yrs later he retired in Taos, NM with his wife Barbara and took up bicycling, skiing, fishing and gardening. John is survived by his wife, Barbara, son, Steven, daughter, Leslie & two grand children, Warren & Lea Monlux. Arrangements by Rivera Family Funeral Home.
