John Patrick Lamkin left this world peacefully, the way he lived his life. Born on November 16, 1933, in East Los Angeles, CA, to Clyde and Sara Lamkin, John was a counterculture pioneer. His artistic spirit and love of adventure led him to travel the world, mostly with his loving companion Susanna Starr, exploring cultures and photographing and writing about them in various magazines. Artist, musician and poet, John was also the founder and editor of Paloma Blanca Press, and co-produced two books with Susanna, Fifty and Beyond and Our Interwoven Lives with the Zapotec Weavers. John had a lifelong connection to Buddhism and embodied the values of voluntary simplicity, living in harmony with the earth. He is survived by his life partner, Susanna Starr, her children, Mirabai (Jeff Little), Amy and Roy Starr, his daughter, Patricia Lamkin and grandchildren, Andrea Bell, Stella Kae and Jeremy King, and grandchildren Sakura and Anouk Lee and Adrianna King. John was a much-loved member of the Taos community for over 40 years and will be missed. Memorial service will be held at a future date.
