John Lewis Woodworth, 74, of Taos NM passed away peacefully at home on March 29th, 2011 surrounded by his family. John is survived by his wife Nancy, his son John Jr. and wife Diane, son Tim and his wife Kelly, daughter Sarah and her husband Jeff. He was very proud of his nine grandchildren: Jessica, Karen, Julia, Andrew, Jack, Grace, Scott, Jaime and Jake. He is also survived by his two brothers, Harmon and David Woodworth. He will be missed by his golden retriever, Annie. He was raised in Lake Bluff, Illinois by parents Harmon and Betty Woodworth. He stayed to raise his children in the same town with them. John met Nancy in Illinois and they were married on December 19th, 1964. He studied economics at DePauw University and the University of Chicago. He served in the US Army, Pentagon. John had a long career as a commercial banker in the Chicago area. John balanced family and career with an involvement in his community. In Illinois, he served in various capacities on school and park district boards. He was very active with Lake County Society for Human Development, an organization that serviced the mentally and physically handicapped. John always enjoyed traveling, especially to the West. He and his wife Nancy moved to his beloved Taos in 1991. He worked in real estate in Taos before retiring. John was very active in the First Presbyterian Church of Taos, serving as an elder and on the session. In Taos he served on the boards of the TCEDC, The Land Trust, Menaul School, and most recently on the Shared Table board. Memorial service will be held on Sunday, April 03, 2011 at 3 PM at the First Presbyterian Church of Taos. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests gifts to: First Presbyterian Church of Taos, The Menaul School, or the Shared Table.
