John Emmet Maguire, age 80, died November 2,2011 at St. Vincent's Hospital in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He was born November 13,1930 in Dawson, Minnesota. Grew up in Madison, Minnesota and attended St.Cloud State University before entering the U. S. Air Force Paratroopers. After completing service, he returned home to work in the family retail oil company. He attended auctioneering school in Kansas City, and became a professional auctioneer. In addition, his energy and charismatic talents led him to create a popular radio program that broadcast area news. He had a family of four children with his marriage to Charlotte Markhan, before re-locating to Belen, New Mexico, where he worked in radio and formed a real estate company. He was also active in the Firehouse Theater Company. After moving to Albuquerque, he started a silk screen business known as, "Beetle Canyon." John was preceded in death by his parents, James and Jeanette Maguire, sister, Caroline Maguire, and his son, Patrick Daniel Maguire. Survivors are: son John Maguire, his wife, Jennifer, and daughter Lisa Starr, son Michael Leonard-Maguire, his wife, Darlene,. siblings: James Maguire, Anne Maguire, Marion Menshek, Ellen Dyer, her husband, Jay, Janet Paul, her husband, Tom, Patricia Bowles, Michael Maguire, his wife, Rachel. Grandchildren: Nicholas, Tom, Josef, Miles, Guy, and twenty-six nieces and nephews. He lived with his best friend, Millie Dew, along with Lucille, Carol, and Russell. They met while appearing in the play, "A View from the Bridge," at the Albuquerque Little Theater. They traveled all over the country selling garments of various types with his magnificent animal designs and the stories that went with them. He always credited the faculty and staff at Los Ranchos Elementary for helping him create his business. They were always most generous. He admired the beauty of the universe, especially, New Mexico. He was a man of the earth, who respected all living creatures and beings. He loved feeding the birds out back, watching the cows, coyotes, and antelopes go by, looking at the beautiful sunrises and sunsets, sitting in the swing with dog, MacDog, gazing at the mountains, talking to the ravens, rabbits, and squirrels, and rubbing three-legged cat, Zorro, every morning. Jack was most funny and loved telling stories, collecting books, and having those Friday Nite Margaritas. So! "Here's ta ye, Maguire.! " You will be remembered as a bright, energetic, charismatic personality with love and the ability to create enduring friendships. These are the gifts you left to us all. The light surrounds you forever. God's Speed!. You are a new star. There will be a, "Celebration of Life Party," this summer. In remebrance, please make a donation to a animal shelter.
