John P. Montoya

John P. Montoya was born April 29th, 1934 in Santa Cruz, NM and was a life long Resident of La Puebla, NM. On October 5, 2017, surrounded by his beloved family ,John P. went to be with our Heavenly Father. He is preceded in death by his parents,Procopio and Teresita Montoya; his sister Philomena Romero, brothers Willie ,Eppie , and Samuel Montoya. John P. was known as “Jumpy” to his close friendsand family. He had a gentle and generous spirit and was a great friend and mentor to many. Foremost, John P. was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and Father-in-law. John P. Montoya was a well-known and respected Professional Land Surveyor in Espanola, NM for 41 years. John also took up a second career as a Real Estate Broker. Heearned his B.A. degree in Education from Saint Michaels College. He served in theArmy National Guard and the U.S. Army for 6 years. He was a member of La Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Cañada (Holy Cross Church), where he served as an Usher. John P. Montoya will be deeply missed by his family. He is survived by his wife Helen of 58 years, Daughters; Bernadette Gonzales and husband Steve, Angela Valdez and husband Jerome, Annette McCurdy and husband Tim, Sons; John T. Montoya and wife Noema, and Andrew Montoya. Brother; Joe Montoya, Grandchildren; Steven, Michael and Kathleen Gonzales, Johnelle and Thomas Montoya, Brennan and Norissa Valdez, Kevin, Katrina and Kurtis McCurdy. A Rosary will be recited on Friday, October 13, 2017 at 11:00 am at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Santa Cruz, NM with a Memorial Mass to follow at 12:00 pm at Holy Cross Catholic Church. Military Interment will be held on Monday, October 16th at 1:30pm at Santa Fe National Cemetery. The Montoya family has entrusted the care of their loved one to the Rivera Family Funeral Home and Crematory, Espanola, NM.
