JONANNE GORDON
Santa Fe – Jonanne McWhorter Gordon passed away Thursday, February 1, 2018 at her home in Santa Fe, New Mexico from natural causes. Private services will be held on February 16, 2018 for the immediate family.
Jonanne McWhorter was born on March 7, 1933 in Dallas, Texas. She was the daughter of Ross McWhorter and Irma McWhorter of Lubbock, Texas.
After her graduation from Lubbock High School, Jonanne's education continued at the University of Miami until she married Dr. Don Thomas Gerschick of Grapevine, TX. The couple had one son Michael Thomas Gerschick.
Music and dance were an important part of her life. From an early age Jonanne took ballet and continued her ballet training until her fifties. She was also very adept at ballroom dancing. Another love was opera and classical music. Throughout her life her travels had taken her to some of the world's famous opera houses and concert halls. Jonanne was an active supporter for the arts. Lubbock Ballet, Lubbock Symphony Orchestra, and the Santa Fe Opera have benefited from her involvement and support. While living in Pendareis, New Mexico, Jonanne helped facilitate bringing musicians to the Pendareis Village to perform to an audience in an area that had no other outlet for live classical music.
In recent years Jonanne enjoyed her weekly potlucks over a friendly competitive game of bridge with her girlfriends. She was ruthless at cards. Whether it was bridge, gin rummy or hearts she always knew what cards you were holding in your hand.
Jonanne was preceded in death by husband Charles Michie McCollum and ex-husband Milo Gordon along with parents Ross and Irma McWhorter and grandparents John and Annie Dalrymple.
Jonanne is survived by her son Mike Gerschick and grandson Mathew Gerschick both from Grapevine, Texas.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Santa Fe Opera or the ASPCA in Jonanne’s name.
