Jonathan Taintor

Jonathan Taintor, 50, of Valdez passed away on June 10, 2007. Born in buffalo, NY, he has lived in the Taos area since 1976. Prior to becoming a professional artist, he worked in the construction industry. He was well known for his carving; he began his carving relief landscapes in wood at age 13, and became a professional artist in 1980. His work has been exhibited nationally, and site-specific commissions have been completed for corporate and private collections. His images have always focused on form and movement. He was the recipient of many awards, including a "Young Sculptors Award" from the National Sculpture Society, in 1992. He was honored at last years Knickobocker Artists Show in New York where he received the Loran award for his sculpture, "Contemplation of Venus." Taos. A memorial service will be held at a later date to be announced.
