Jon Harmon Grahn passed away on the evening of May 19, 2023, at the age of 79. He was born March 9, 1944, in San Rafael, California, the only child of William Harmon Grahn and Sylvia Cronin Grahn. During his life he made his home in New Mexico, Washington, California, and Maryland, and had lived in Taos, NM since 2002.
Harmon served honorably in the United States Coast Guard from June 1, 1965 to May 31, 1971. In 1971 he joined the Unification Church of which he was a member for 17 years. There he met Ruth Jeannine Hancock of San Francisco, California. They were married on February 8, 1975 in Seoul, Korea, after which Harmon served as a missionary in Africa from 1975-1980. Harmon and Jeannine had three children, and were legally separated on February 13, 2012.
Harmon worked as a photographer, newspaper editor, radio broadcastor, graphics designer, and he was a visionary writer. He is preceded in death by his parents, and is survived by three children, Aaron Grahn (Susan Grahn), Jennifer Grahn, and Dillon Grahn (Stephanie Grahn); and three grandchildren, Kelly Grahn, Emily Grahn, and Annabelle Grahn.
Family members will hold a small gathering to honor Harmon's life, and his ashes will be spread in the mountains of New Mexico and by the sea in the Pacific Northwest.
