Jose Mendizabal Garcia, 59, beloved husband, son, brother, step-father and step-grandfather, passed away suddenly on February 16, 2025.
Jose was born in Melrose Park, IL and spent his formative years in Chicago. He grew up as a Bears fan and continued his passionate support of this team throughout his lifetime – some years were rough! Shortly after graduating High School, he enlisted with the Navy. He spent 4 years with the Navy and 2 years in the Navy Reserves. He earned his BA in Architecture. He ran his own carpentry and design business. Throughout his life, he was known for his hard work, strong faith, dedication, and passion for helping others.
In his free time, he enjoyed playing video games, riding his motorcycle, watching football and movies and date nights with his wife.
Jose is survived by his loving wife, Sylvia, his sister, Elda, and his father, Tony, his step-children, Rueben, Patrick, Thomas, Timmy (deceased) and Joshua, and his step-grandchildren and other extended family members. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him.
Visitation and funeral services will be held at the Kiva Chapel at Rivera Family Funeral home in Santa Fe, NM. Visitation will be from 5 pm to 8 pm on Tuesday, March 11, 2025. And the funeral service is Wednesday, March 12, 2025 from 1:00 to 2:00 pm. Details on the reception will be available at the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Wounded Warriors (www.support.woundedwarriorproject.org). We hope to see all the friends and family who can attend to help us celebrate Jose and his life.
