Jose Ben Montoya, a loving husband, father, grandfather & great grandfather from Nambe passed away on Wednesday, January 6, 2016. He is survived by his Children: Erlinda and husband, Bert Ortiz; Elizabeth and husband, Robert Findling; Elaine and husband, David Duran; and sons Rick Montoya and Esto Montoya; surrogated children: Angela Corriz and Michelle Gonzales; thirteen grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren. Siblings: Ramon Montoya, Fernanda (Fernie) Giron, Michael Montoya, Roadrunner Café staff; Sisters-in-law Carmen and husband, Frudy Herrera, Bennie Trujillo, MaryAnn Griego, Sophie and husband Harry Howard; Brothers in-law: Mino Romero and wife Agnes, David Romero and wife Luggie, Sammy Romero and wife, Christina and many other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife & soul mate Lorraine, his parents, Ramon and Frances Montoya, in-laws, Carmel and Juanita Romero; sister, Mary Roybal, brother, Leroy Montoya; daughter, Lourdes Montoya; Granddaughter, Ursula Duran and God child, Steven Montoya; sister-in-law Tillie and her husband Johnny Garcia and brother-in-law, Willie Trujillo.
He was a United States Korean War Navy Veteran where he met Bill Atkins–a friend for 65 years. He worked at and retired from the Los Alamos National Laboratories. He and His wife, Lorraine, owned and operated the Roadrunner Café since the early 80's. He was a man of all talents. He could fix anything–cars, machinery, electronics, etc. He loved the outdoors. Ben and his wife fostered children in the 60's and 70's and are Godparents to many children. Words cannot describe what a great man he was; we are so blessed to have had him in our lives.
The Rosary was held at the Nuestra Senora de Guadalupe in Pojoaque on Tuesday, January 12. Funeral Mass was at Nuestra Senora de Guadalupe in Pojoaque on Wednesday, January 13, 2016 followed by burial at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe.
