Jose De La Luz Romero of Llano Quemado passed away on February 27, 2008 at home after a short illness. Joe Light as he was called by some had a long and fruitful life and a very interesting life with lots of happiness and joy.
Jose De La Luz was born on June 21, 1918 on the first day of summer, the longest day of the year, and the day with the most light. He was preceded in death by his parents Epifanio y Juliana Valerio Romero, his first wife Maria Stella and second wife Guillerma "Willie", a baby daughter Evangeline, a son Clarence, and a grandson Nicholas Angelo. Also two brothers Pancracio and Tomas and four sisters Tilia Torres, Trini Oakley, Socorro Romero, and Elba Lucero. He is survived by two brothers Higino (Francis) and Julian (Eloida), and two sisters Susi Correa and Josephine Gonzales. He is also survived by five sons; Joe Jr. (Yvonne), Flavio Roberto "Bob" (Alice), Raymundo (Darlene), Orlando (Amy), Francisco Romero (Natalia). Also four daughters Maria Arabella Penner (Carl), Julia Caffrey (Kevin), Delores Serio (Don) and Yvonne Miranda (John). He is also survived by two step-sons Ruben and David Lopez and four step-daughters Erma Dewig (John), Celeste Owens (Keith), and Priscilla Martinez and Antonella Vermillion. He is also survived by 38 grandchildren and 31 great grand children and a host of friends.
A rosary was prayed after a viewing at Rivera Chapel on February 28th, a second rosary was prayed at San Francisco de Asis Church in Ranchos on February29th. Funeral mass was held on Saturday March 1st.T
