Jose I. Garcia (Joe) a resident of Pajarito, NM passed away on December 2, 2017 from injuries suffered in a motor vehicle accident. He was born on January 21, 1936 in the mining town of Terrero, NM and was raised in Santa Fe and Pajarito. His parents were Conferina Salmeron and Doroteo Garcia. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Celina Rael Garcia, his son Joaquin Garcia and wife Natalie and grandsons Joaquin and Julio Cesar Garcia. He is also survived by brothers Roque (Mona), Anastacio, Charlie, Tommy (Roberta), and Gerald, also by sisters Maria Elena (Jerry Martinez), Margie (Gilbert Martinez), and Pauline Garcia. He was preceded in death by his sister Rita Morelos and brothers Doroteo and Jimmy. He is survived by sisters and brothers in law Anna DeLay (Charles), Chris Rael (Janet), Carol Rael (Anthony), Javier Rael (Isela). Also surviving him are his children from previous marriages. Jose Bessett, Liz Halverson and Victoria Herschberger and granddaughters Holly and Jessica. He is also survived by Angie Lewis and husband James and their children Mark, John and Diane and Angie's mother Mary. He had six great grandchildren and numerous cousins as well as nieces and nephews who he was close to. He was a long time Land Grant and Acequía advocate and was recently elected to the San Miguel del Vado Land Grant Board. He worked at numerous jobs but his favorite was being a wrangler and doing ranch work. He was active in the San Miguel County Democratic Party where he served as Precinct Chair. In lieu of flowers the family of Jose I. Garcia has requested that donations be made to: San Miguel Del Vado Land Grant Association P.O. Box 399 Ribera, New Mexico 87560 At his request he will be cremated and a memorial celebration will be held on January 21, 2018, 1:00 PM at the San Miguel Land Grant Building, in San Miguel, New Mexico
