Jose Lucio “Joe” Jaramillo of El Rito, New Mexico passed away peacefully on September 12, 2024, surrounded by family.
Joe was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was an outdoorsman of the first order and loved nothing better than spending time with friends and family, sharing the joy of being in the great outdoors and teaching all the finer points of hunting, fishing, camping, four wheeling, or even cutting wood. Fish and game of all shapes and sizes were no match for his prowess with firearm, bow, or rod. When not outdoors, at work or around the house Joe could build or fix anything; he always had a tool or part buried somewhere in the shed that would perfectly complete the job.
Joe was born on March 18, 1943, in Cebolla, New Mexico and married the love of his life, Maryann Lucy Sanchez, on October 22, 1961, in Center, Colorado. Together they lived and grew their family in New Mexico and Colorado, with stops in Center, Minturn, and Leadville, Colorado, then in Los Alamos, New Mexico, finally retiring to El Rito for the last two decades.
Joe is survived by: His wife Lucy, Four children: Joyce LaCome (Michael) of Leadville, Colorado; Pearl Dwyer (Jim) of Knoxville, Tennessee; Jose Lucio Jaramillo, Jr. of Los Alamos, New Mexico; and Michelle Tapia (Rick) of Santa Fe, New Mexico, Twelve grandchildren and four great grandchildren, and sisters Eufania “Fanny” Dupree of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Charlotte Ottley of West Valley, Utah.
The service for both Joe and Lucy will be held at Victory Faith Church, 823 Angel Duran Drive, Espanola, on Saturday, October 12th, at 11:00 am.
Lucy said she preferred a service replete with colorful clothes, not traditional funeral garb.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to favorite outdoor-related charities, in memory of Jose L. “Joe” Jaramillo.
