Joseph D. Apodaca, born on March 8, 1917, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his family. Joe was born in Trinidad, Colorado to Jose Santana Apodaca and Ophelia Vigil. He was the second of six children. He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish and the Knights of Columbus. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps. He was a barber for many years. He was co-owner of Rexall Drug Store with his wife Carlotta and brother and sister in law, John and Rose Holland. He was an avid golfer known as the legend to the golf community. He was also a league bowler in Denver and Taos. He loved to play pool every day with his fellow companions at Ancianos. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jose Santana and Ophelia Apodaca and mother and father in-law, Emma and Norberto Saavadra, wife, Carlotta Apodaca, brothers, Teofilo (Petra) and Sabino, sisters, Genoveva (Sister Judith) and Louise, nephews, Charles Apodaca, Jerome Romero and special nephew, Robert Apodaca, sister, Rose and John Holland, brother in-law, Dr. Gerard Garland. He is survived by his children, Joseph Apodaca (Joella), Yolanda Valerio (Michael), Michelle Martinez (Ray), Deanne Mares (Phillip), Barbara Apodaca, Martin Apodaca and Carla Garcia (Rick), ten grandchildren, Miguel, Andres, and Tomas Martinez, Crystal and Isaac Valerio, Joseph and Jamie Apodaca, Richard Garcia, Shane Apodaca and Brianna Lujan, ten great-grandchildren and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Rosary was recited on August 20, 2014. Funeral mass was held on August 21, 2014. Both were held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. Interment was held at Sierra Vista Cemetery.
