Our beautiful and gentle Mother, Aunt and Matriarch of the Trujillo family is making her final journey home.
Josephine passed away peacefully on August 15th, 2020 at home with her niece Teya, her loving caretaker/friend Yvonne Martinez and friend Kristie Castillo by her side.
Josephine was a WWII veteran who served as a WAAC in the U.S. Army from August 28th, 1943 until October 10th, 1945. She was stationed in Italy and Algeria.
Aunt Jo was a Substance Abuse Counselor for 17 years and helped many people find new lives and new paths.
She was an accomplished potter and wonderful cook who loved her extended family, her pets and all strays, both four-legged and two-legged.
Josephine was proud of her Native Heritage and participated in the many cultural events held at Ohkay Owingeh Pueblo where she lived with her husband of 39 years, Charles Archuleta. She also took part in ceremonies and lodges conducted by her late brother Servando Trujillo.
Josephine was preceded in death by her husband Charles Archuleta, parents Lucas Trujillo and Sara Anaya Trujillo, brothers Ruben, Lucas, Roy, Roy Reynaldo, J.R., Servando, Arthur and Frank and sisters Gladys, Herminda, Anne, Sara and Teya.
Josephine is survived by her son James Chancellor (Espanola, NM) her brother Eddie Trujillo (Roswell, NM) nieces Teya Andersen (Ohkay Owingeh, NM) Darlene Trujillo and husband Claus Herring (Rowe, NM) and her large and loving family.
Aunt Jo has so many nieces, nephews and cousins who loved and were loved by her that we can't list them all. She was always so proud of you and your children and grand children and great grand children. She boasted of your talents, accomplishments, beauty and intelligence to everyone. You were all loved and blessed by her.
Aunt Josephine's family would like to give special thanks to her many friends, Especially her nephew David Johnston and his wife Nancy, her "niece-in-law" for a wonderful week at their beautiful home in La Selva Beach, CA. and BFF Bonnie and her husband Joe for a wonderful week at their beautiful home in Happy Camp, Ca. Aunt Jo had a great time.
Debbie and Paul Gronbach (proud grandparents of Matthew and Elena) for their loving support and kindness.
And of course all of her friends at the Ohkay Owingeh Senior Center where Aunt Jo and Uncle Charlie shared good meals, friendship and laughter for many years.
A special thank you to Kristie Castillo for her loving care and assistance whenever it was needed. Kristie never said no.
We would also like to thank the many nurses, doctors and health care professionals who helped us keep Aunt Jo healthy and happy, Tiffany and Estelle the wonderful nurses from the VA who's company she greatly enjoyed, Theresa and Lorraine, her care coordinators of Addus Health Care and her caretakers Yvonne Martinez and Steven De Herrera also from Addus.
And many thanks to Theresa and the professionals at Rivera Funeral Home who helped prepare Aunt Jo for her final journey with dignity and compassion.
Funeral Services for Josephine will be held in Rowe, NM on Saturday, August 22, 2020 at 2:00PM. There will be a traditional Lakota Pipe Ceremony held in her honor conducted by Scott Thomas, followed by a simple feast.
