Joseph Ross "Punky" Martinez

Joseph Ross “Punky” Martinez, 57 – Passed away on Sunday, October 28, 2018, during dialysis in the presence of his beloved wife and companion of 21 years Carmen Ortiz (de Martinez). Joseph was born in Santa Fe, New Mexico and raised in La Puebla and Chimayo, New Mexico to Lugarda Lopez-Martinez and Ross Martinez. He attended school in Espanola and went to Highlands University in Las Vegas, New Mexico where he obtained his Associates degree in Electrical studies. He also obtained his journeyman electrician’s license and was a member of the IBEW Local 611. Joseph was the proud owner of Joe Ross Electric. After traveling parts of the United States doing his electrical work, Joseph settled in Santa Fe where he worked in State Government. Those who knew Joseph knew him as a fun loving, witty and friendly person. He loved making new friends. Joseph loved his family and friends dearly and Joseph was always so appreciative of his numerous doctors as well as Christus-St. Vincent Hospital, Fresenius Dialysis Center; Santa Fe County EMT’s and the University of Colorado-Aurora Transplant Center doctors and staff. His favorite past time were watching westerns, dancing and riding his Harley Davidson Road King. Joseph was always willing to lend a helping hand and will be missed greatly by all who knew him. Joseph is preceded in death by his parents Lugarda Lopez-Martinez and Ross Martinez; mother-in-law Crucita Ortiz; brother Rick Martinez and numerous other relatives and friends. Joseph is survived by his companion Carmen Ortiz; father-in-law Mel Ortiz; children Orlinda Walker-Martinez and Reay Walker-Martinez; step-children Dominic Gonzales and Cristiana Silva (Mike); grandchildren Dominic Jr., Kairi and Isaac; sister Andrea Martinez; brother Phil Martinez (Jackie); godson E.J. Martinez and many other relatives and friends. Cremation has taken place. A rosary will be recited Monday, November 5, 2018 at 9:30 a.m. at Santa Maria de la Paz Catholic Church with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Rosario Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of Rivera Family Funeral Home.
