Joseph Shain

Joseph R. “Joe” Shain, 77, of Santa Fe, NM, passed away Sunday, December 11, 2022, at home. Joe is missed by many, including children Jason and Kara Shain; daughter-in-law Erin Kelsey; son-in-law-to-be Andrew Schuch; ex-wife and friend Patricia; and brother Barry and Barry’s partner and children. Joe is preceded in death by parents Florence and George Shain.

Joe grew up in the Boston area and, after residing in many different places, made a home in Santa Fe. Joe loved physical activity, walks with dogs, and volunteering. Joe worked as a civil engineer for the State of New Mexico Department of Transportation. His efforts to work for others were always evident in his work or in his volunteer activities. Despite his move across the country, he remained loyal to the Boston sports teams and could always be relied on for active conversation about why, for instance, the Patriots will definitely make it to the postseason this year.

Joe will be cremated and scattered overlooking his home so as to always have a view of the desert sky and the sunsets. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Bienvenidos Outreach, Inc.
