Josie Garcia

November 28, 1947 — January 20, 2021

Josie (Fita) Garcia, of Rio Chama, went to heaven January 20, 2021. She was born November 28, 1947 in Ensenada, New Mexico.

She was preceded in death by her parents Christina Sanchez Maestas and Joe Maestas and her sisters Gloria and Jennie Maestas.

Josie was a phenomenal woman who could do it all and did it all with grace and love.  She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, sister, cousin and friend.  Her vibrant personality, infectious laugh, and generosity was shared with everyone.  She made friends and spread joy everywhere she went.  Josie excelled in cooking, baking, sewing, canning and knew how to prepare the traditional foods from northern New Mexico that were learned from growing up in an agricultural family.  Her creativity and ability to solve problems was amazing.  She was an advocate for the workers union, civil rights and all the underdogs.  She was a fun loving person who enjoyed music and spending time with her family and friends.  She cared for her mother, sisters, brother and all of her family, nurturing others was the way she lived her life; a testament of her faith.   She was truly one of a kind who had a gift for making people feel special and loved. She was a beautiful soul and was always getting compliments for her gorgeous hair and happy smile.  She will truly be missed.

Josie is survived by her husband of 51 years, Patricio Garcia of Rio Chama, daughters Dishayne Garcia, Graciela Garcia, brothers Joe Maestas, Manuel Maestas, Ricky Maestas, sister Patricia Valdez, grandchildren, Gabriel Monforte, Elijah Garcia Gonzales, Galicia Monforte, Seviana Monforte, great granddaughter, Sade Monforte, son in law, John Monforte.  She was a motherly figure to many of her nephews and nieces and loved them all.
