Joyce Mcginnis

Joyce McGinnis, 90 of Taos, New Mexico, passed away peacefully on March 19, 2019, surrounded by family. She was born in Winchester, Kentucky, to Harry B. and Grace Mackey. She grew up in Lebanon, Kentucky, and was valedictorian of her high school class. Joyce went to college at the University of Kentucky, where she met her future husband Kenneth McGinnis when they were assigned to work next to each other in chemistry lab. Joyce and Kenneth lived in Chicago and New Orleans for Kenneth's medical education. They settled in southeast Michigan, where they raised eight children. In retirement, Joyce convinced Kenneth to swap the cold and snow of Michigan for Cape Coral, Florida. Joyce moved to Taos in 2017 to be near family. She is preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth McGinnis and her son, Mark McGinnis. She is survived by her children, Barry (Lee Ann), Diane (David), Karen, Joye (Chuck), Patrick, Kim (Malinda), and Kent; grandchildren, Jason, Ashley, Michele, Sean, Christopher, Jordan, James, Timothy, Jazz, Wendy, Dylan, Stephanie; step-grandchild. Mikaela; several great-grandchildren; and daughter-in-law, Jean McGinnis. The family will plan a memorial service in the future.
