Juan Andres Duran, 70, of Abiquiu went to be with our Lord on Sunday, October 15, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. He was preceded in death by his parents; Agapito and Senaida Duran, wife; Mary Eve, Brothers; Roselio and Armando Duran, Sister; Eloisa Duran, and Step-son Demetrio “Demo”. He is survived by his Daughter, Karen Duran-Suazo and husband Joseph; Son, Miguel Andres Duran and wife Kim; Grandchildren: Tayler, Megan, Nathaniel Suazo and Alyssa, Justin, Damian Duran; two Great-Grandchildren, Mariah and Maison Duran, Sister-in-laws; Perla Davis (Charlie), Pablita Lujan, Brother-in-laws; Eloy Gallegos (Juanita), Lupe Gallegos (Delfinia) and several Nieces, Nephews and Godchildren.
Juan was a devoted Catholic, he served as mayordomo and sang with the church choir at St. Thomas the Apostle Parish for many years. His faith was paramount in his life, in addition to, his love for Karen & Andres and all his grandchildren. He celebrated in every academic achievement and cheered at every sporting event. Juan had a great passion for baseball. He played for over 30 years and could always be found watching MLB and cheering for the San Francisco Giants. Juan served in the United States Navy and is a Vietnam Veteran. He worked and retired from Los Alamos National Laboratory and Espanola Public Schools after 36 years.
A visitation will be held at the Rivera Family Funeral Home in Espanola on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at 6:30pm followed by a Rosary at 7:00pm. On Thursday, October 19, 2017 at 7:00pm there will be a Rosary at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Abiquiu. A memorial mass will be celebrated on Friday, October 20, 2017 at 10:00am at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Abiquiu. Burial will follow at the Abiquiu Cemetery.
Serving the family as pallbearers are: Solomon Manzanares, Johnny Jaramillo, Jake Salazar, Lupe Gallegos, Carlos Salazar, Harold Martinez, Ruben Maestas and Juan Lopez. Honorary Pallbearers: Misha, Maria, Dennis, Nicos, Estevan, Cruz Gallegos, Abedon, Paul, Gabriella Lujan, Ross and Jamie Duran.
