Juan Esquipula Martinez, 80, a lifelong resident of Chimayo passed away on Friday, October 10, 2008, following an extended illness. He was preceded in death by his wife Ruby R. Martinez; parents Mauricio and Andreita Martinez, brothers Mauricio Martinez, Jr. and Ernesto Martinez. Pula as he was known to family and friends, was a jack of all trades-farming his land, maintaining his tractors and equipment, and overseeing La Capilla De Nuestra Senora Del Carmen. A painter by profession, he worked at LANL for 41 years and was a proud, lifelong union member and Democrat. He was also a member of La Cofradia De Nuestro Senor De Esquipulas. He is survived by his children; Lucille Martinez-Holguin and husband Eduardo of Chimayo, Dennis and Ercelia Martinez of Chimayo, Pula and Stephanie Martinez of Albuquerque, and Lora and Frank Montenegro, Jr., of Las Vegas, NM. Grandchildren; Ivy Martinez, Annette and Donavan Curley, Yvonne Williams, Kathyern Martinez, Andrea and Phillip Trujillo, Pablo and Fernando Montenegro, Ana and Sergio Holguin, Great Grandchildren; Julian Martinez, Adrianna and Marcus Williams, Alyssa Curley and Oscar Trujillo. Sisters; Mariana Jaramillo, Ninfa Martinez, Lugarda Martinez, Catalina and Rudy Martinez, Nestor and Delia Martinez, Richard and Lillian Martinez, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and sweetheart Polly Tainter. Serving as pallbearers; Fernando and Pablo Montenegro, Phillip Trujillo, Donavan Curley, Ernesto Martinez and Bob Tainter. Honorary pallbearers are; Modesto Espinoza, Sergio Holguin, David Tainter, Kurt Weidner, Ralph and Tony Martinez, Roger Martinez, Andy Montoya, Gilbert Coriz, Juan A. Martinez, and David Jaramillo, Jr. Public visitation will begin at 4:00 pm on Sunday and the rosary to be recited at 5:00 pm at the mortuary.A second rosary will be recited on Monday at 5:00 pm at Holy Family Catholic Church in Chimayo, and the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday morning at 11:00 am also at church.
