Juanita B. Archuleta age 81 of Santa Cruz was called home on Wednesday June 24, She enjoyed many activities throughout her life, in her home in Santa Cruz, where she raised her family and found employment.
As a young lady she began her career working after school at Espanola Mercantile for about 1 year, also working for The Atomic Energy Commission in Los Alamos for 5 years, The Southern Union Gas Company, and ultimately retiring in 1986 from The Department of Human Services after 26 years. After retirement she dedicated herself to the wellbeing of young people by serving as a volunteer with The Holy Cross School in the classroom & the library, as a chaperone during school activities, and also serving on the school board itself. She served in church ministries including being active in the CCD, singing in the church choir, serving as a lector, and other church involvement that continued through the rest of her life. She was a volunteer on The Espanola Valley Chamber of Commerce for 3 years, and proudly with The Espanola Hospital Auxiliary for 15 years, donating 3,500 hours of her personal time. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband John E. Archuleta, her parents; Jose Isa and Drusilla T. Bustos, her father and mother in law Jose Victor and Mabel Archuleta, her brothers in law Butch Archuleta and Donaldo Archuleta. She is survived by her son John D. "Rocky" Archuleta and companion Lisa Morgan, daughters; Mary Jane Doglione and husband John David, daughter Mellissa Archuleta and husband Jared Sena, brother Jody Bustos and wife Frances, sisters-in-law; Belle Becker and husband Joe, Martha Archuleta, Norma Evans and husband Robert and Yolanda Archuleta. Public visitation will be held on Sunday from 3 to 6 pm in the mortuary chapel. Recitation of the rosary will be on Monday at 7:30 p.m. at La Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Canada. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 30, at 12:30 PM also at La Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Cañada with interment to follow at The Santa Fe National Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. Serving the family as pallbearers will be Ken Karlsen, Joe Becker, Jr., Tomas Archuleta, Terrance Gallegos Dennis Gallegos and Jared Sena. Honorary pallbearers are Raymond Bustos and the Espanola Hospital Auxiliary.
In lieu of flowers her family respectfully requests that memorial contributions may be sent to the Juanita B. Archuleta Memorial Fund at Valley National Bank in Espanola, to benefit charitable organizations in the community.
