Juanita Mearl Sharp Hume, 92, passed away peacefully on January 15, 2019. Juanita was born in Wewoka, Oklahoma on August 1, 1926 to Dewey and Maudie May (Molleur) Sharp. Juanita was married on June 2, 1944 to her beloved husband Kenneth Lee (Red) Hume, who predeceased her just prior to their 70th wedding anniversary in 2014. A stillborn son, Ronald Lee Hume, also preceded her.
Juanita is survived by her son, Kenny Hume of Tijeras, NM, her son Russell Hume (Sara) of Santa Fe, NM and her granddaughter, Torey Hume, of Albuquerque, NM.
Kenny and Juanita moved to Espanola, New Mexico in 1956 and were deeply involved in the early establishment of the First Baptist Church on La Joya Street. Juanita was a dedicated wife and mother and gifted homemaker who greatly enjoyed entertaining for extended family and the many dear friends they made over their 60 years in Espanola. Juanita was a marvelous cook, enjoyed gardening and crafts and always excelled at whatever she turned her hands to. Juanita often spoke lovingly about her many brothers and sisters, of whom she was particularly fond. Juanita’s caring heart and generous spirit will be deeply missed.
Memorial Services will be held on Thursday, January 24 at 9:30 a.m. at the Rivera Family Funeral Home at 417 East Rodeo Road. The internment will take place at 11:15 a.m. at the Santa Fe National cemetery.
