Mel Jaramillo, Age 74, a resident of Fairview, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on June 17, 2009 after a lengthy illness. Mel was preceded in death by his mother, Darita Martinez, father, Juan Manuel Jaramillo, step-father, J.B. Martinez, in-laws, Emilio and Josefita Cordova, sister, Simmie Martinez, brother Tony Jaramillo, sister-in-law, Ercilia Tafoya and brothers-in-law Ruben Tafoya and Ernest Salazar; may all their souls rest in peace. Mel was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and will be dearly missed. He is survived by Minnie Jaramillo, his wife of 52 years, his daughter Melene (Joe) Montano; his sons Mel (Martha) Jaramillo and Mike (Scott) Jaramillo, his grandchildren, Thomas (Amanda) Roller, Melarie Roller, Tyra and Anna Jaramillo and one great grandson, Eban Roller. Mel is also survived by his Aunt Ethel Medina, brother-in-law, Dan Martinez, sister-in-law, Fidelia Jaramillo, his sisters, Olympia (Gilbert) Martinez, Mary Lou (John) Feit; Matilda (Jim) Stanfill and Bernie Martinez; his sisters-in-law, Elvira Salazar, Adelita Salazar and Cande (Howard) Mackey, and many cousins, numerous nephews, nieces and other relatives. Mel graduated in 1953 from McCurdy High School. He attended and earned a Bachelor's Degree from Highlands University. Mel worked for the Income Support Division for 25 years. He was a very proud and active member of the Española Knights of Columbus Council # 3314 and served as a Grand Knight, Deputy Grand Knight, Board of Director of the Columbus Club, President of Columbus Club and held other various positions. He also held the position of State Deputy, Immediate Past Deputy, District Deputy, State Treasurer, State Secretary and Supreme Convention Delegate. Mel also participated in Los Padres Assembly as a 4th Degree member serving as Faithful Navigator and Master of the John H. Reddin Province and held other various positions. Rosary will be recited on Sunday June 21, 2009 at 4:30 p.m. at La Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Canada. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 11:00 AM also at La Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Cañada with interment at The Santa Fe National Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are: Warren Medina, Ross Herrera, Ralph Trujillo, Joe Branch, Leo Rivera, Gilbert Rivera and Ernest Ortega; Honorary pall bearers are Dan Martinez, Howard Mackey, Joe Montano, Tony Sandoval, Thomas Roller, Melarie Roller, Tyra Jaramillo, Anna Jaramillo, Martha Jaramillo and Eban Roller.
