Julia Mares

August 30, 1952 — April 2, 2023

It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to Julia Pauline Mares, born August 30, 1952 and departed on April 2, 2023. She is preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Saturnina Sandoval; siblings: Phillip Sandoval, Raymond Sandoval, Patricia Anaya, and Terri Mares.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Albert Mares. Daughters: Elizabeth Narvaiz(Christopher) and  Bernadette Mares. Grandchildren: Savannah Trujillo, Sabrina Narvaiz and her miracle baby/adventure partner, Zoe Mares. Her sister’s children whom she loved as her own: Richard Mares(Crystal), James Anaya and daughter Dawn,Yvette Anaya and twins Anyston and Kamyron. Brother-in-laws: Louie Mares and Jimmy Anaya. And her canine babies: Frank and Romo.

She was a strong, devoted woman and a mother before anything else. Every moment with her consisted of feeling a sense of belonging and the purest of love. She was an educator her entire life working at different schools throughout Santa Fe but her favorite memories were made at Capital High School where she remembered all her ISS students fondly. She always took the time to show someone how much she cared for them and always made sure you never left without a hug or a kiss. She was compassionate and graceful in how she treated others. It is in this moment that we are reminded of the value of her love that will last forever.
