Juliana Moya Gallegos Mccluggage

March 10, 1923 — December 4, 2017

Juliana Moya Gallegos McClggage was born on March 10, 1923, in Valmora, New Mexico. The youngest daughter of Clemencia Sanchez and Federico Moya, her two sisters, Benita Moya Wasson and Viola Moya Williams preceded her in death. She attended McCurdy School in Santa Cruz, NM earning a scholarship to York College in York, Nebraska. After her mother’s death she returned to Las Vegas, New Mexico area where she enrolled at New Mexico Highlands University. In 1939, she was employed, under an emergency certificate as a teacher in San Miguel and Mora counties. She told stories about subsisting on oatmeal 3 times per day while she continued working on her degree. During this time she met and married Ernesto Carlos Gallegos. They has had two children: Ernestine and Fred. She obtained her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Highlands and then worked in a variety of schools until coming to Santa Fe County Schools in 1952. When the city and county schools merged she continued her job working at a number of schools including Tesuque, Gonzales, ending her time in a service at Agua Fria Elementary School in 1984. After a very active retirement, she met and married Dale K. McCluggage. He preceded her in death in 2009. Juliana enjoyed a full and successful life. She enjoyed her teaching career, and in her retirement she had an opportunity to travel widely and give public service through a variety of organizations. She served with Santa Fe County RSVP, New Mexico Educational Retirees, and City Different Educational Retirees Association. She also was very active in her Church- Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She leaves behind her children Ernestine Hagman (Melvin), Fred Gallegos (Sylvia), 4 grandchildren : Melissa "John" Lawrence, Marcos Gallegos, Nina & Scott Thompson, and Roger Hagman. She leaves 6 great-grandchildren: Geoffrey & David Lawrence, Santiago & Mateo Thompson, Charles & Aurora Hagman. Donations may be made to The Food Depot, 1222 A Silver Road, Santa Fe, NM 87507. In deference to her Northern New Mexico roots. A Rosary will be recited at Rivera Funeral Home at 9:00am Friday, December 8, 2017 with services following at 11:00 at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 410 Rodeo Road, Santa Fe, NM 87505.
