Julian Eloy Varela

Julian‌ ‌Eloy‌ ‌Varela‌ ‌of‌ ‌Pecos,‌ ‌NM‌ ‌passed‌ ‌away‌ ‌peacefully‌ ‌on‌ ‌January‌ ‌14,‌ ‌2021.‌ ‌He‌ ‌was‌ ‌born‌ ‌on‌ ‌December‌‌13,‌ ‌1936‌ ‌in‌ ‌Pecos,‌ ‌NM‌ ‌to‌ ‌the‌ ‌late‌ ‌Eluterio‌ ‌and‌ ‌Luisa‌ ‌Varela‌ ‌of‌ ‌La‌ ‌Posada.‌ ‌He‌ ‌was‌ ‌the‌ ‌third‌ ‌eldest‌ ‌of‌ ‌six‌ children.‌ ‌Eloy‌ ‌was‌ ‌a‌ ‌loving‌ ‌husband,‌ ‌father,‌ ‌grandfather,‌ ‌brother,‌ ‌and‌ ‌friend.‌  ‌He‌ ‌married‌ ‌his‌ ‌love‌ ‌Esther‌ on‌ ‌January‌ ‌2, ‌1960‌ ‌and‌ ‌the‌ ‌two‌ ‌went‌ ‌on‌ ‌to‌ ‌have‌ ‌5‌ ‌children:‌ ‌Leroy,‌ ‌Debbie,‌ ‌Pauline,‌ ‌Julian‌ ‌and‌ ‌Tim-his family‌ ‌meant‌ ‌the‌ ‌world‌ ‌to‌ ‌him.‌‌The‌ ‌majority‌ ‌of‌ ‌Eloys‌ ‌working‌ ‌years‌ ‌were‌ ‌spent‌ ‌as‌ ‌a‌ ‌miner‌ ‌in‌ ‌Nevada‌ ‌and‌ ‌New‌ ‌Mexico.‌ ‌Eventually, ‌he‌ ‌returned‌ ‌home‌ ‌to‌ ‌Pecos‌ ‌to‌ ‌retire‌ ‌and‌ ‌reunite‌ ‌with‌ ‌his‌ ‌children‌ ‌after‌ ‌the‌ ‌passing‌ ‌of‌ ‌his‌ ‌wife‌ ‌Esther.‌ He‌ ‌later‌ ‌remarried‌ ‌Corrine‌ ‌Montoya‌ ‌whom‌ ‌he‌ ‌remained‌ ‌married‌ ‌to‌ ‌the‌ ‌remainder‌ ‌of‌ ‌his‌ ‌life.‌ ‌He‌ ‌leaves‌ ‌a‌ ‌lasting‌ ‌legacy‌ ‌of‌ ‌kindness, ‌goodwill‌ ‌and‌ ‌generosity‌ ‌that‌ ‌will‌ ‌live‌ ‌on‌ ‌through‌ ‌his‌ ‌family‌ ‌for‌ ‌many‌ ‌generations‌ ‌to‌ ‌come.‌ ‌ ‌

Eloy’s‌ ‌wit‌ ‌and‌ ‌sense‌ ‌of‌ ‌humor‌ ‌will‌ ‌be‌ ‌greatly‌ ‌missed‌ ‌by‌ ‌everyone,‌ ‌and‌ ‌his‌ ‌funny‌ ‌one‌ ‌liners‌ ‌will‌ ‌live‌ ‌on‌ ‌through‌ ‌the‌ ‌stories‌ ‌we‌ ‌have‌ ‌to‌ ‌cherish‌ ‌in‌ ‌his‌ ‌memory.‌ A‌ ‌few‌ ‌to‌ ‌note:‌ ‌If‌ ‌a‌ ‌family‌ ‌member‌ ‌went‌ ‌to‌ ‌visit‌ ‌Eloy, ‌he‌ ‌would‌ ‌say‌ ‌when‌ ‌they‌ ‌were‌ ‌leaving,‌ ‌“take‌ ‌your‌ ‌time‌ ‌going,‌ ‌but‌ ‌hurry‌ ‌back.”‌ ‌If‌ ‌someone‌ ‌went‌ ‌to‌ ‌visit‌ ‌after‌ ‌a‌ ‌vacation‌ ‌he‌ ‌would‌ ‌say‌ ‌in‌ ‌a‌ ‌joking‌ ‌manner‌ ‌“jente‌ ‌con‌ ‌feria,”‌ ‌always‌ ‌happy‌ ‌to‌ ‌hear‌ ‌when‌ ‌his‌ ‌family‌ ‌was‌ ‌enjoying‌ ‌life‌ ‌to‌ ‌the‌ ‌fullest.‌ ‌If‌ ‌a‌ ‌family‌ ‌member‌ ‌missed‌ ‌a‌ ‌function‌ ‌for‌ ‌work,‌ ‌he‌ ‌would‌ ‌say,‌ ‌“making‌ ‌money‌ ‌and‌ ‌no‌ ‌time‌ ‌to‌ ‌spend‌ ‌it.”‌ ‌These‌ ‌were‌ ‌a‌ ‌few‌ ‌of‌ ‌his‌ ‌favorite‌ ‌sayings‌ ‌that‌ ‌are‌ ‌well‌ ‌known‌ ‌to‌ ‌those‌ ‌that‌ ‌love‌ ‌and‌ ‌miss‌ ‌him,‌ ‌and‌ ‌to‌ ‌him‌ ‌we‌ ‌say‌ ‌“keep‌ ‌resting‌ ‌for‌ ‌tomorrow,‌ ‌Choy,‌ ‌Choy,‌ ‌Choy.”‌ ‌Your‌ ‌kids‌ ‌and‌ ‌grandkids‌ ‌will‌ ‌be‌ ‌here‌ ‌missing‌ ‌you,‌ ‌continuing‌ ‌to‌ ‌argue‌ ‌about‌ ‌who‌ ‌was‌ ‌your‌ ‌favorite-because‌ ‌that’s‌ ‌how‌ ‌you‌ ‌made‌ ‌each‌ ‌one‌ ‌of‌ ‌us‌ ‌feel.‌ ‌ ‌

His‌ ‌wife,‌ ‌Esther‌ ‌Varela,‌ ‌son‌ ‌Leroy‌ ‌Varela,‌ ‌brothers‌ ‌Sabino‌ ‌Varela and‌ ‌Virgil Varela,‌ ‌and‌ ‌grandson‌ ‌Diego‌ ‌Gonzales‌ ‌Sr.‌ ‌precede‌ ‌him‌ ‌in‌ ‌death.‌  ‌He‌ ‌is‌ ‌survived‌ ‌by‌ ‌his‌ ‌loving‌ ‌family:‌ ‌daughters‌ ‌Debbie‌ ‌Varela‌ ‌and‌ ‌Pauline‌ ‌Varela (Gary);‌ ‌sons‌ ‌Julian‌ ‌Varela‌ ‌(Sonya)‌ ‌and‌ ‌Tim‌ ‌Varela‌ ‌(Kris‌ ‌);‌ ‌current‌ ‌wife,‌ ‌Corinne‌ ‌Varela,‌ ‌stepsons‌ ‌Joseph Montoya‌ ‌(Lora)‌ ‌and‌ ‌Nathanial‌ ‌Montoya‌ ‌(Louise);‌ ‌his‌ ‌grandchildren,‌ ‌Genevieve‌ ‌Lujan,‌ ‌Kimberly‌ ‌Gonzales,‌ ‌April‌ ‌Varela-Welter‌ ‌(Chris)‌ ‌Ashley‌ ‌Gonzales‌ ‌(Daniel‌ ‌Trujillo),‌  ‌Melarie‌ ‌Gonzales,‌ ‌Amber‌ ‌Varela-Franzella‌ (Jason)‌ ‌Robin‌ ‌Varela,‌ ‌Adam‌ ‌Varela,‌ ‌Candace‌ ‌Sanchez‌ ‌(Orlando),‌ ‌Kaeli‌ ‌Varela,‌ ‌Levi‌ ‌Varela‌ ‌and‌ ‌Lee‌ ‌Varela;‌ Step‌ ‌grandchildren:‌ ‌Ashley‌ ‌Zamora‌ ‌(Chad),‌ ‌Joshua‌ ‌Montoya,‌ ‌Natalia‌ ‌and‌ ‌Angel‌ ‌Montoya;‌ ‌Surviving‌ ‌sisters,‌ ‌Sixta‌ ‌and‌ ‌Inez‌ ‌Varela‌ ‌of‌ ‌Grants,‌ ‌NM.‌ ‌Surviving‌ ‌Brothers,‌ ‌Ernest‌ ‌(Linda)‌ ‌Varela‌ ‌and‌ ‌Junior‌ ‌(Sixta)‌ Varela‌ ‌of‌ ‌Pecos,‌ ‌NM.‌  ‌Loving‌ ‌Great‌ ‌Grandchildren‌ ‌Manuel‌ ‌Salas,‌ Alfonso‌ ‌Lujan,‌ ‌Miranda‌ ‌Lujan,‌ ‌Sebastien‌ Gomez,‌ ‌Jaiden‌ ‌Block,‌ ‌Emilia‌ ‌Welter,‌ ‌Diego‌ ‌Gonzales‌ ‌Jr.,‌ ‌Cruz‌ ‌Gonzales,‌ ‌Jase‌ ‌Franzella,‌ ‌Everly‌ ‌Franzella,‌ Alivia‌ ‌Moya,‌ ‌Khasen‌ ‌Varela,‌ ‌Keoni‌ ‌Sanchez,‌ ‌Jerry‌ ‌Flores‌ ‌Jr.,‌ ‌Isaiah‌ ‌Zamora,‌ ‌and‌ ‌Mateo‌ ‌Zamora.‌  ‌

He‌ ‌had‌ ‌numerous‌ ‌nieces,‌ ‌nephews,‌ ‌and‌ ‌Godchildren-‌ ‌all‌ ‌were‌ ‌special‌ ‌to‌ ‌him.‌ ‌

‌The‌ ‌viewing‌ ‌for‌ ‌Eloy‌ ‌will‌ ‌be‌ ‌held‌ ‌on‌ ‌Friday‌ ‌January‌ ‌29,‌ ‌2021‌ ‌from‌ ‌4:00-6:00‌ ‌p.m.,‌ ‌with‌ ‌the‌ ‌rosary‌ ‌to‌ ‌follow‌ ‌at‌ ‌6:00‌ ‌p.m.‌  ‌Funeral‌ ‌Services‌ ‌will‌ ‌be‌ ‌held‌ ‌on‌ ‌Saturday,‌ ‌January‌ ‌30,‌ ‌2021‌ ‌at‌ ‌10:00‌ ‌a.m.‌  ‌with‌ ‌a‌ ‌burial‌ ‌to‌ ‌follow.‌ ‌Rosary‌ ‌and‌ ‌funeral‌ ‌services‌ ‌will‌ ‌be‌ ‌held‌ ‌at‌ ‌Rivera's‌ ‌Funeral‌ ‌Home‌ ‌in‌ ‌Santa‌ ‌Fe‌ ‌NM.‌  ‌Burial‌ ‌will‌ ‌be‌ ‌held‌ ‌at‌ ‌the‌ ‌Pecos‌ ‌Cemetery.‌  ‌Serving‌ ‌as‌ ‌pallbearers‌ ‌will‌ ‌be:‌ ‌Adam‌ ‌Varela,‌ ‌Sebastien‌ ‌Gomez,‌ ‌Jaiden‌ Block,‌ ‌Chris‌ ‌Welter,‌ ‌Daniel‌ ‌Trujillo.‌ ‌and‌ ‌Delfino‌ ‌Varela.‌ ‌Honorary‌ ‌pallbearers;‌ ‌Jason‌ ‌Franzella,‌ ‌Diego‌ ‌Jr.‌ Gonzales,‌ ‌Cruz‌ ‌Gonzales,‌ ‌Jase‌ ‌Franzella,‌ ‌Khasen‌ ‌Varela,‌ ‌Manuel‌ ‌Salas,‌ ‌Alfonso‌ ‌Lujan‌ ‌and‌ ‌Keoni‌ ‌Sanchez.

‌Due‌ ‌to‌ ‌the‌ ‌current‌ ‌COVID‌ ‌19‌ ‌environment,‌ ‌Eloy’s‌ ‌funeral‌ ‌services‌ ‌will‌ ‌be‌ ‌in‌ ‌accordance‌ ‌with‌ ‌State‌ ‌

Guidelines‌ ‌on‌ ‌the‌ ‌number‌ ‌of‌ ‌attendees‌ ‌at‌ ‌places‌ ‌of‌ ‌worship,‌ ‌and‌ ‌therefore,‌ ‌attendance‌ ‌will‌ ‌be‌ ‌limited‌ ‌to‌ ‌immediate‌ ‌family‌ ‌members.‌ ‌A‌ ‌celebration‌ ‌of‌ ‌life‌ ‌will‌ ‌be‌ ‌held‌ ‌once‌ ‌COVID‌ ‌19‌ ‌restrictions‌ ‌are‌ ‌no‌ ‌longer‌ ‌in‌ ‌effect‌ ‌and‌ ‌will‌ ‌be‌ ‌announced‌ ‌at‌ ‌a‌ ‌later‌ ‌date‌. The‌ ‌family‌ ‌would‌ ‌like‌ ‌to‌ ‌extend‌ ‌a‌ ‌heartfelt‌ ‌thank‌ ‌you‌ ‌to‌ ‌all friends‌ ‌and‌ ‌family‌ ‌that‌ ‌have‌ ‌reached‌ ‌out‌ ‌during‌ ‌this‌ ‌difficult‌ ‌time.‌ ‌
