Julian Eloy Varela of Pecos, NM passed away peacefully on January 14, 2021. He was born on December13, 1936 in Pecos, NM to the late Eluterio and Luisa Varela of La Posada. He was the third eldest of six children. Eloy was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He married his love Esther on January 2, 1960 and the two went on to have 5 children: Leroy, Debbie, Pauline, Julian and Tim-his family meant the world to him.The majority of Eloys working years were spent as a miner in Nevada and New Mexico. Eventually, he returned home to Pecos to retire and reunite with his children after the passing of his wife Esther. He later remarried Corrine Montoya whom he remained married to the remainder of his life. He leaves a lasting legacy of kindness, goodwill and generosity that will live on through his family for many generations to come.
Eloy’s wit and sense of humor will be greatly missed by everyone, and his funny one liners will live on through the stories we have to cherish in his memory. A few to note: If a family member went to visit Eloy, he would say when they were leaving, “take your time going, but hurry back.” If someone went to visit after a vacation he would say in a joking manner “jente con feria,” always happy to hear when his family was enjoying life to the fullest. If a family member missed a function for work, he would say, “making money and no time to spend it.” These were a few of his favorite sayings that are well known to those that love and miss him, and to him we say “keep resting for tomorrow, Choy, Choy, Choy.” Your kids and grandkids will be here missing you, continuing to argue about who was your favorite-because that’s how you made each one of us feel.
