Katherine "Kathy" Hagerman, born Katherine Ann Kitch in Dallas, Texas, April 30, 1939, passed away January 17, 2022, surrounded by adoring family.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 52 years, Horace Lowry "Bud" Hagerman, her mother Virginia Van Meter Kitch, and her brother William C. Kitch.
She is survived by her children Anne Marie Hagerman Wall, Thomas Lowry Hagerman, and Charles Nathan “Nat” Hagerman, and by her grandsons Benjamin Andrew Wall, and Hunter Hagerman Wall.
She graduated from Wichita High School East in 1957, and Wellesley College in 1961.
Her formative years were split between Kansas and New Mexico and, after marrying Bud Hagerman in 1961, she became a permanent resident of New Mexico. During her lifetime in New Mexico, she worked in farming, ranching, education, research, and writing. She was a true Renaissance Woman; an observer, citizen scientist, volunteer, outdoors-woman, avid reader, and scholar. She was also a cherished friend, loving wife, and beloved mother.
Years ago, Kathy wrote her reply to Dylan Thomas’s poem, “Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night”, about the end of life:
“Welcome gentle that good night,
Drift with the dying of the light,
To depths unknown and shores beyond
Where other dawns await thy flight.”
A memorial service will be held Sunday June 5, 2022 at 11:00 am at Rivera Family Funeral Home, Santa Fe, New Mexico.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Santa Fe Animal Shelter or Heifer International.
