Kent Pegg

February 23, 1964 — February 11, 2021

Kent Pegg, of Los Alamos NM died unexpectantly February 11, 2021 twelve days short of his 57 birthday.

Kent was born in Canton, Ohio to Jerry and Judy Pegg. As a young boy, Kent grew up on his grandparent’s lake house in Canton, Ohio.  He loved boating and playing baseball and football. He attended the Canton Country Day School, Central Catholic High School, and he graduated from Kent State University Suma Cum Laude. Kent was a highly intelligent well-educated man. He had two Engineering degrees and one history degree and an extremely high IQ.  He was very versatile in all areas of life and enjoyed conversations on pretty much any topic.

Kent opened Los Alamos Fitness in 2003 to help the people of Los Alamos achieve their fitness and wellness goals. He was a Certified Personal Trainer with the American Council on Exercise.  He specialized in helping clients with rehabilitation, weight loss, and bodybuilding.  Kent worked with many clients to manage disease and improve quality of life.  He was also well known for participating in and hosting the Southern Rockies Natural Bodybuilding contests in Los Alamos and for instructing the 50+ Fitness and Abs class at the Fitness Center.  Additionally, he wrote over 40 articles covering a large array of fitness topics to be published in the Los Alamos Daily Post.  Kent had over 25 years of experience in the field of health and fitness.

Kent lived in Alaska prior to moving to NM and participated in the Alaskan Iditarod. He helped manage the Iditarod Race check points and helped train the sled dogs belonging to “famous musher” Martin Buser.   Kent became the proud owner of a retired sled dog, his beloved Satchmo.  They were best friends “the two man crew”.

Kent met his wife Carrie Montoya-Pegg in May of 2006 at the Fitness Center during one of his abs classes.  They were married in June of 2008 in Navarre, Ohio.  Kent and Carrie traveled many places including Italy, France, Belize, Alaska, Prague, Las Vegas, Colorado, and of course Ohio to visit his family.  They shared this passion for travel and had many adventures.  They managed Los Alamos Fitness Center together and held the bodybuilding shows for many years.

Kent loved and adored their family cat, Grainger.  She brought him great comfort over the last few years. He loved to give her belly rubs, snacks, and she warmed his heart every night by sleeping on his belly.

With his baseball cap turned backwards and the confident stride of a true athlete he is remembered by all who met him for his kind and gracious temperament, dancing blue eyes, and quick smile that left one wondering if he had just heard a great joke.

Proceeded in death by his father Jerry Pegg of Canton, Ohio, survived by his wife Carrie Montoya-Pegg, step-daughter: Brianna Montano, cat companion: Grainger,  his extended family all from Canton Ohio: Mother Judy Pegg, Sister Kim Hollinger, Brother Keith Pegg (Kristy Pegg), 3 nieces Natalie Starn (Steve Miller), Renee Starn, Kinley Pegg, 1 nephew Caden Pegg and one great Niece Aria Starn.
