Larry Alan Knox, age 70, passed away unexpectedly on June 7, 2019 in his Santa Fe, New Mexico home.
Larry Alan Knox was an adventurer in body, mind and spirit; and, he shared these adventures with his wife of 40+ years, Roberta Rossi Knox. From backpacking across Africa, to studying with the Dalai Lama in India, to building one of the first “Earthships” on the Rio Grande Gorge of Taos, Larry and Roberta ventured far and wide.
Larry integrated his appetite for travel and diversity with his life's work in multicultural sensitivity training and shared his knowledge on an international level. Larry lived in the moment with his quick wit, incredible sense of humor, playfulness, and his contagious laugh. He exuded a warmth and loyalty to his friends. He always knew what to say and had an answer for everything. One of his favorites was “S**t happens and People do things.” In recent conversation, he declared “My epitaph would read “He Meant Well...”
He especially loved hiking in the mountains, picnics, hanging out with his friends that he loved, tending to his little adored rescue cats, and living in his beloved city of Santa Fe for the past 30 years.
Larry graduated from United Township High School in East Moline, Illinois in the class of 1967. His undergraduate work was in Psychology at Northern Illinois University, and he received his Ph.D from University of Illinois in Multicultural Organization and Diversity.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Audrey Berniece and James Cecil Knox.
Larry lives on in the memories of his wife and life partner of 40+ years, Roberta Rossi Knox, his 2 sisters, Linda Kastory (Bernard) of Vero Beach, Florida, and Karen Speck, Moline, Illinois; 6 nieces and nephews, numerous friends, colleagues, and other family members.
In honor of Larry Alan Knox, a Celebration of His Life is tentatively scheduled for September 15th in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Final plans will be available on the Rivera Family Funeral Home Website at a later date.
