Larry S. Maestas, 1956-2024
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Larry S. Maestas, 68, of Rio Chama, NM.
A beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who passed away peacefully at home on Friday August 30, 2024, after enduring a longtime illness. Larry was born on May 16, 1956, in Albany, CA.
Larry was preceded in death by his father, Manuel Maestas; his mother, Vitalia Maestas; his daughter-in-law, Crystal Maestas; his brother, Manuel Maestas; his father-in-law, Delfin Garcia; his mother-in-law, Virginia Garcia; his sisters-in-law, Jeannette Maestas and Doreen Mondragon; his brothers-in-law, Donald Archuleta, Richard Garcia, and Alex Mondragon; and other beloved relatives who held a special place in his heart.
Larry’s greatest joy came from the love he shared with his devoted wife of 51 years, Sandra Maestas, and their children—LuAnn, Sammy (Naomi), and Leo (Tori)—who were his world. As a proud grandfather, he treasured every moment with his grandchildren—Andres (Destiny), GiAnna (Alex), Serenity, Isaiah, Julian, Ezekiel, and Ava—and his great-grandchildren, Narah, Bryce, and Eli, creating lasting memories full of laughter and love.
Larry is also survived by his sisters, Vickie Maestas (Archie), Helen Archuleta, Mary Trujillo (Lito), and Cathy Guerrero (Antonio); sisters-in-law, Karen Gallegos, Cathy Martinez (Tony), Diane Gallegos (Jackie) and Cindy Garcia; brothers-in-law, Dale Garcia (Sonia) and Robert Romero.
A seasoned pipeline welder by trade, Larry was deeply committed to his craft while nurturing many passions. His faith and profound relationship with the Lord guided him throughout his life. He was also an avid hunter and camper, finding peace in nature and sharing adventures with his family. His passion for muscle cars and drag racing showcased his adventurous spirit, filling his life with excitement and joy.
Larry will be deeply missed, but his legacy of love, faith, and devotion will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. A celebration of his life will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 13, 2024, at Truth Ministries in Arroyo Seco, followed by a burial at San Jose Cemetery in Hernandez. All are welcome to attend.
