Laura F. Maez

Laura F. Maez, age 90, a resident of Nambe, NM, passed away on October 9, 2015. She was born on March 5, 1925 in Espanola, NM to Esquipula Montoya Romero and Silviano Montoya. She was preceded in death by her husband Hilario A. Maez, son, Robert Maez, father, Silviano Montoya, mother, Esquipula Montoya, step-father, Margarito Romero, sisters, Isabel Abeyta and Frances Cottrell, and grandson Enrico (Rico) Roybal. She is survived by her son James Maez (Florence) of La Vista, NE, daughter Marcella Roybal of Nambe, NM, son Rudy Maez (Renee) of San Pedro, NM, brothers, Juan Montoya (Anja) of Sacramento, CA, Horacio Montoya of Espanola, NM, sister, Eva Gurule (Levi) of Espanola, NM and half-sister, Adela Martinez of Espanola, NM. She is also survived by her grandchildren Melissa Morford, Jessica Roybal, Paul Maez (Amy), great-grandchildren, Taylor Maez, Samantha Morford, Kiana Maez, Marley Roybal, and Luke Lovato. Laura met Hilario while working in Los Alamos in the early days. They married and lived in Los Alamos for a short period then settled in Nambe. Laura stayed home to raise her three children and enjoyed gardening and visiting with the neighbors. In her later years Laura worked for Santa Fe County as a cook at the El Rancho Community Center for the Senior Citizens who lived in the area. Pallbearers will include Lench Romero, Randy Gurule, Mario Gurule, Fidel Vigil, Paul Maez, and Rudy Maez. Honorary pallbearer will be Enrico (Rico) Roybal. A Rosary was recited on Monday, October 19, 2015 at Rivera Family Funeral Home in Espanola, NM. Mass of Christian Burial took place on Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Nambe, NM. Interment followed at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.
