Leland Lester

d. January 17, 2008

Leland Kenneth Lester, Jr., 51, of Arroyo Seco, NM & Castro Valley, CA, passed away January 17, 2008. Lee was a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley, which was somewhat of a family tradition. (Go Bears). There, he obtained a degree in Geography. He spent two summers as an exchange student in Germany and came back fluent in the German language. He also traveled to Alaska and spent some time there working in a cannery and on an Alaskan salmon fishing boat. He loved to tell & re-tell stories of his adventures in both places to anyone with a willing ear. Lee made his way in life as a Contractor and as an excellent builder. Swinging a hammer was second nature to him. Clients and co-workers will remember him for his fine carpentry and his eye for detail. Lee took great pride in his work and in his participation as a local volunteer fire fighter. Lee was a kind soul with an open heart. He was charming and generous and was always happy to help others. His keen mind for details, facts and dates made him an extreme history and current affairs buff. He loved animals and the beauty of nature and the natural world. His knowledge of geology kept him interested in rocks and mountains and hiking was a favorite pastime. Lee is survived by his wife, Erika Lester of Arroyo Seco, NM & La Lama, NM, his parents Ken and Genie Lester of Castro Valley, CA, his brothers, Daniel Lester (Sally) of Santa Cruz, CA and Patrick Lester of Monterey, CA. Also by the "worlds best dog" Maskara & "kitty gone wild" Tito. Lee will be greatly missed by all who knew him. A memorial will be held for him at a future date.
