Lena Sweeney

Lena Cisneros Sweeney (December 15, 1927) left this life on January 15, 2023, at the age of 95. She passed away in her home in Albuquerque, NM, surrounded by her family. Lena is preceded in death by her husband Robert (Bob) M. Sweeney, parents, Ramona and Ignacio Cisneros, sisters, Rosemary Martinez (Severo) and Viola Peña (Abe), brother-in-lawJerry Sweeney, beloved daughter-in-law Kristin Sweeney, and nephew Mike Cisneros.She is survived by her brother, Bobby Cisneros (Ann), children, Patty (Ron), Marty, David, and Arlene, grandchildren, Shannon (Seun), Kelly, Stephanie, Jessica (Joe), Alex, Audrey, and Isaac, great-grandchild Joaquín Mayowa, and the nieces and nephews of the Cisneros,Martinez, Montaño, and Peña Families.Lena’s career began with the Santa Fe Railroads, then she spent many memorable years caringfor her children. She eventually returned to work and retired from the Santa Fe Public School Cafeteria. After retirement, Lena spent more time doing the things she loved - including fishing and traveling with Bob, being with her family and friends, spending time with her grandchildren,traveling, ceramics, bowling, and painting. To know Lena was to know she was one of a kind. She loved life. Lena was our matriarch,always outspoken and providing guidance “whether we wanted it or not! ”We are a reflection of you, Mom/Grandma/Auntie. Your light will continue to shine through us. Lena’s remembrance will begin with on Friday, February 3, 2023 at 9:30am at Rivera Family Funerals & Cremations. Inurnment will be next to her husband, Bob, at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 11:00am.
