2024 in Albuquerque NM. He will always be remembered for the generosity and kindness that he showed to all. LeRoy was the consummate family man and the world’s best provider.
LeRoy was born in Oakland, California in 1943. He grew up between the family ranch in Taos where his deep family roots are, and Los Alamos, New Mexico where his father was a letter carrier. LeRoy was an excellent athlete and was a star basketball player for the Los Alamos Hill Toppers, and at 5 '11'’ was dubbed “Little LeRoy”. He was especially good at handling the ball and sinking top of the key shots and further out. He led the Toppers to a state championship and several state championship bids. LeRoy loved to play baseball and men’s league basketball in Los Alamos and later in Taos.
LeRoy was a proud military veteran of the United States AirForce and entered military service during 1961-1965 after graduating from Los Alamos High School. Miera completed his basic training in Lackland Air Base in Texas and later served at Clarke Air Base in the Philippine Islands resupplying B-52 bombers used in the Vietnam War.
After receiving an honorable discharge from the Air Force, Miera began a lengthy career at the National Laboratory in Los Alamos where he eventually retired as a building inspector. He was loved and revered by his coworkers.
LeRoy eventually moved back home to Taos and commuted for many years to his job in Los Alamos. LeRoy met Julie Martinez, the love of his life in Taos and together raised their family until his passing. LeRoy loved his family and extended family, especially primos, tíos, and tías and was known by us all for his keen wit and great sense of humor. He loved family gatherings, watching CNN News, professional and collegiate basketball, football, and even baseball. He loved carne seca almost as much.
