Linda Palmer

Linda Palmer, a long-time resident of Santa Fe, peacefully passed away at her home on September 20, 2024. Linda was born on February 5,1942 on a US military base in Panama and grew up between Massachusetts and Nebraska, where her family had a cattle ranch. She obtained a teaching degree from Salem State College, and in 1962, took a teaching job in Casper, Wyoming, where she met and married her husband Ronald Palmer in 1964. Ron and Linda moved to Yerington, Nevada in 1970, where Ron worked for Anaconda Copper Company. While in Nevada, they had two daughters, Rachel and Lydia. After living briefly in Casper, Wyoming, the family moved to Santa Fe in 1980. Linda obtained a degree in Accounting from the College of Santa Fe and worked at several jobs before joining the State of New Mexico as a corporate tax auditor, eventually becoming the Audit Bureau Chief before her retirement in 2007. After retirement, Linda remained busy volunteering at the NM Corrections Department, Santa Fe Public Library, The Food Depot, Pete’s Pets Homeless Shelter, and as a literacy coach, as well as working as an election worker and substitute teacher.  Throughout her life, she was active in her church, Zia United Methodist where she was a founding member and enjoyed baking, reading, swimming, gardening, and doing the puzzles in the paper. 

Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Dorothy Spoerry and is survived by her husband, Ronald Palmer, her daughters Rachel Palmer (husband Arthur Alvarez) and Lydia Palmer, her brothers Roger Spoerry (wife Collette Murphy) and Stephen Spoerry (wife Linda Linden), and her granddaughters Bianca and Jovie Alvarez.
