Obituary:  Loida Linder

On April 24, 2021 at 11 am, we will gather at Immanuel Lutheran Church (ILC) in Las Vegas, NM and then at North Pilgrims Rest Cemetery to honor the matriarch of the Linder Family.  Pastor Douglas Escue of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Santa Fe will lead the service.

Loida Linder, 87, of Santa Fe succumbed in her sleep early in the morning of April 11, 2021.  Mom’s life was an ongoing celebration of knowing her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  She was active in all aspects of Church life and supported many ministries.  One of her favorite encouragements was the Evangelical Sisterhood of Mary, also known as Canaan in the Desert.  Mom sponsored their radio show for several years in the NE NM market.  She led many Bible studies and Prayer groups.  Loida attended St. John’s LC in NYC;  ILC in Springer, ILC in Las Vegas and ILC in Santa Fe NM.  She also attended Memorial Lutheran in Katy, TX while living in Houston.

Mom was born on September 23, 1933 in Camaguey, Cuba.  Her family later moved to Havana.   She immigrated to NYC when she was young.  Loida’s favorite job was working at Gimbels.  Eventually she joined the WACs and met her future husband, David Romaine Linder while they both were serving at the Pentagon.  They were married in NYC on May 10, 1957.  The new family moved to Springer, NM and she worked with her groom growing the new family business: Linder Drug.  Later the household bought a ranch in Miami, NM.  Her kids often referred to Mom as a “concrete cowboy” given her willingness to get into the details of ranching.

Mom worked as an LPN after matriculating at Trinidad State.  Later, Loida became an RN after graduating from Highlands University in Las Vegas.  She worked at local hospitals and finished her nursing career at the NM State Hospital in Las Vegas.  Mom also helped Dad grow the family art collection which procured the works of Paul Valentine Lantz and others.

She lived in Cuba, NYC, Springer, Miami, Clayton, Las Vegas, San Felipe, Houston, and Santa Fe.

Loida Linder is survived by her children: son, David Peter and his wife, Elizabeth; son, Mark Benjamin and his wife, Karon; daughter, Rebecca Linder; daughter, Andrea Linder, and her spouse, Israel Mateos; 13 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren; and sister, Mary McCarty of Springer, NM.Our mother was preceded in death by her beloved husband, David Romaine Linder, their daughter, Rachel Salas Linder, her sister, Ada Elsa Jimenez and her parents, Amado Jimenez and Eugenia Lazo.

Arrangements are entrusted to Rivera Funeral Home (505 989-7032) of Santa Fe, NM.
