Lorenzo Sandoval
July 20, 1922 ~ July 13, 2008
A Native Santa Fean, L.J. "Sandy" Sandoval, 85, passed away peacefully on Sunday July 13, 2008 with his family by his side.
Sandy is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 56 years, Virginia, his father L.J. Sandoval Sr., his mother Manuelita, brother Charles Sandoval, and sisters Elisa Sandoval and Erlinda Garcia.
He is survived by his daughter Judith Elliot and husband Tony, son Joseph (Jo-Jo) Sandoval, grandchildren Layla Sanchez and husband Santiago, Dee Elliot, Sam Elliot and Isaac Elliot, sisters Frances Sanchez and husband Joe, and Soila Mirabel, sisters-in-law Adeline Sandoval, Lucy Flores, and Alice Montoya, brother-in-law Joe Gomez and wife Andrea and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He is also survived by his special friends Louie and Dolly Ortega, Joe Baca and Eagle buddy Brad Richey.
Sandy graduated from St. Michael's College High School in 1942. He joined the Navy and served his country during WWII. He worked in all phases of the trucking industry and became director of NM State Motor Transportation Department under the King Administration. He was a charter member of Fraternal Order of Eagles and a member of VFW. He loved to make jewelry and enjoyed the time spent with his buddy "Chico" the dog. The Dallas Cowboys have lost their biggest fan.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, July 18, 2008 at 10:00am at The Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi. Burial with full Military Honors will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
