Lorraine Serna entered into eternal life on November 24, 2014 surrounded by her loving family, following a brief illness. Lorraine was born on March 2, 1932 to Eduardo and Arsenia Valdez. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 47 years, Ruben F. Serna, her son Ruben Serna Jr., her sisters Audelia Herrera, Mary Martinez, Alice Lucero, Delma Valdez, and her brother Frank Valdez.
She is survived by her children, Robert Serna (Debbie), Donald Serna, Leroy Serna (Claire), Florence Serna-Salazar (Ronnie), Floyd Serna, and Vivian Martinez (Tommy). Lorraine is also survived by her six grandchildren, Donald, Lorie, Erica, and Sarah Serna, Stephanie Roybal, and Karen Martinez, as well as by eleven great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Gloria Alberico (Fidel), Romie Lovato (Joe) Eddie Valdez, Mary Ann Valdez, Lolly Carillo (Leo) and Frances Vasque (Robert).
Lorraine and her husband Ruben owned and operated Sernas Texaco in Arroyo Seco for many years. Lorraine later was employed and retired from the Espanola Hospital. She was known for her warm and loving smile, her gentle hands, and her kind heart, as well as her love and devotion to her family. She enjoyed gardening, going to the casino, and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was an amazing wife, mother and grandmother. She was a treasure to her family, and will be dearly missed.
A memorial service was held on Monday, December 1, at Rivera Funeral Home in Espanola. A funeral mass took place on Tuesday, December 2, at La Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Cañada, burial followed at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.
