Lucas Martinez

December 9, 1993 — June 25, 2022

Lucas Vicente Ascension Martinez, age 28, a resident of Chimayo, formerly of Albuquerque, passed away June 25, 2022 as a result of a tragic accident. Lucas was born on December 11, 1993 in Santa Fe, NM.

Lucas is preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Henry Martinez from Chimayo, his paternal grandfather Rubel Martinez from San Pedro, NM., and his cousin Joshua Martinez from Santa Fe, NM. He is survived by his mother Lynn Martinez from Chimayo, and his father Joseph Martinez from San Pedro, daughters Alexa and Aubree Martinez, his brother Joey Garcia whom he loved dearly, his sister Ashley Martinez, maternal grandmother Loretta Martinez, paternal grandmother Laura Martinez, his dear nieces and nephews Joey, Destiny, Natalie and Nicholas Garcia, mother of his children Brittney Cordova. He is also survived by many uncles, aunts and cousins who loved him dearly. His close cousin and friend James Garduno, his friends Evan Valdez and Anthony Medina, and lastly a very special friend and mentor Mark Sanchez, who Lucas looked up to.

Serving as Pallbearers were Joey Garcia Jr., Joey Garcia III, Matthew Martinez Jr., Anthony Peperas Jr., James Garduno, and Evan Valdez.

Lucas attended the McCurdy and Pojoaque schools. He joined the Youth Challenge Academy in Roswell, NM where he graduated and received his GED and received scholarships and the Academic Achievement Award. Lucas started his career in 2012 with the sheet metal worker’s union, local number 49. Under them he worked for Miller Bonded, Year Out Support Services, GEW Mechanical, JB Henderson, Los Alamos National Laboratory Craft, and he was presently working for Butler Sheet Metal.

Lucas’ favorite pastime was spending time with his daughters. Lucas was a mama’s boy and proud of it, there’s nothing he wouldn’t do for his mother. He loved the outdoors and spending time with family and friends. Lucas was a devout traditional Catholic who attended the Latin Mass and prayed the rosary on a daily basis. Lucas was an ambitious and driven hard working man. Lucas was beautiful inside and out. He was a kind and loving soul who was loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed.

The family would like to thank Rivera Funeral Home, Father Jose Herrera for the beautiful Latin Mass, Ellen Leitner for the beautiful music, Father Julio for his beautiful prayers at the burial site, Father Nathan for attending the burial and being a mentor to Lucas, Fairview Flowers for the beautiful spray, Mrs. Jaramillo and Janet Malcom for the delicious food, and everyone for their love and support who sent Mass Intentions, monetary donations and food. Carlos Salazar for digging and Leo Montoya for helping.
