Lucia Agapita Vallejos Gonzales, 101, of Questa, passed away on May 4, 2019. She was born to Anastasio Vallejos and Maria Antonia Gonzales in Costilla on April 27, 1918. Lucy taught primarily kindergarten and first grade for over thirty years in Questa, Costilla and Cerro. She was active in St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and many other community organizations such as the VFW Auxilary, 4-H, Catholic Daughters, Guadalupanas and Los Bailadores del Norte. She volunteered at the Questa Senior Citizens Center and helped drive the elderly to their errands and to doctor’s appointments. She also competed in the Senior Olympics and attended the national competitions in Syracuse, New York and Orlando, Florida. In 1991 she was honored as a Living Legend by the Town of Taos. She also authored a memoir titled Treasures of My Valley. Her hobbies included gardening, painting, weaving, and ceramics. She was preceded in death by her parents, Anastasio and Tonita, her husband Alfirio, and her three brothers and seven sisters. She is survived by her three sons, Johnny (Nancy) Gonzalez of Questa, Anthony (Mark-deceased) Gonzales of Albuquerque, Jacob Gonzales of Taos, three daughters, Kathy Ramos (Larry) of Rio Rancho, Maggie (Becky) of Questa and Anna (Ray) Reichbach of Rio Rancho, eight grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and one great grandchild. Rosary will be recited on Thursday, May 09, 2019 at 7 PM at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Questa. Funeral mass will be held on Friday, May 10, 2019 at 10 AM at St. Anthony’s Church with interment to follow at the El Pueblito Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to Mountain Home Healthcare, PO Box 2566, Taos, NM 87571. The family wishes to thank the staff at Mountain Home Hospice for the wonderful care they provided our mom over the last year, Questa Meals on Wheels and Rosie Cisneros, Rose Gonzales, and Maxine Rael and Loveida Cisneros for providing communion and prayer.
