Lucille Lucila Shorty Vargas, 90, of Taos passed away on August 13, 2009. She graduated from Taos High School in 1938. She worked in the shipyards in San Francisco, CA during WWII where she was commended for welding a "fine bead." She worked for New Mexico Human Services until her retirement in 1983. She was an active member of VFW and was treasurer of the Taos Historical Society. She is preceded in death by parents, Enrique and Sofia Vargas, daughter, Carmen Gallegos, son-in-law, Gustavo Gallegos, brothers, Enrique and Robert Vargas and sister, Adelina Garcia. She is survived by daughter, Victoria MacQueen (Hugh), grandchildren, Ramon, Gallegos, Enrique Gallegos (Elizabeth), Luis Gallegos (Lisa), Alexa MacQueen (Andrew Jeantette), Matthew MacQueen, Christopher MacQueen, great-grandchildren, Ricardo Gallegos, Beverly Gallegos, Renee Gallegos, Monique Gallegos, Ariana Gallegos, Isabella Gallegos, Jaiden Jeantette, Arry Sofia Jeantette, sisters and brothers, Emma Merriman, Josefa Romero, Elias Vargas (Alice) and Gilbert Vargas (Julia) and many other relatives and friends.
Memorial Service was held on August 22, 2009 at Rivera Chapel.
