Lucille Gallegos

August 9, 1954 — May 14, 2024

Born on August 9, 1954 in Santa Fe, NM. Lucille went peacefully to join our Lord on May 14, 2024 surrounded by her family. She is preceded in death by her parents, Santiago & Rose Gallegos, her oldest sister, Doris & husband Robert Lovato, and her youngest sister, Gloria Portillo. She is survived by her only daughter, Sarah Vigil & partner Ernesto, her granddaughter, Heaven & husband Jeremy Soveranez, great grandson to be-due in July, Carter James grandson, Thomas Gallegos-Vigil & fiancée Jasmine. Her sister Angie Savinsky & Lee, her brother in-law, David Portillo. Her God-daughter/niece Juliette Jean, nieces & nephews, Deborah, Jayde, Jennifer, Faith (Calvin), Caleb, Hope, Roberta (Theo), Isaiah, Bonita (Isaiah), and Moses. Her partner of many years Willie Valencia & her cats, Silly & Susie. She also had numerous friends and associates whom she cared for very much.

Lucille was an extremely friendly and welcoming person who would effortlessly make friends with strangers wherever she went. She always had a smile to share! Lucille was a remarkable woman. She was fiercely independent and hardworking. She was one of four daughters but always referred to herself as, “the son her daddy never had.” She was a tomboy of sorts, always willing to get her hands dirty. She would be the first to help her dad with any project, no matter how big or small. Lucille took this love of working with her hands as an opportunity to own her own business. She worked many years setting tile. She truly enjoyed working hard and she was very  good at it. Even in retirement she began to miss setting tile, so she decided to teach classes for Continuing Education at Santa Fe Community College. Lucille had a great love for her family, especially her only daughter, Sarah and both her grandchildren, Heaven and Tomas. She was looking forward to the birth of her great-grandson, Carter James in July.  She also couldn’t wait to put her dancing shoes on for her grandson’s wedding in October. She had a deep love for music and dancing, often breaking into song and dance in her car. Lucille had a green thumb and always had an amazing display of house plants. Large and small, she talked to them all! “That is how they grow”, she would always say. She adored being outdoors. She especially liked to go fishing. She loved to pack up a picnic lunch and go up to the mountains to eat and enjoy time with family and friends. Lucille was an amazing cook. She made all sorts of dishes and would sometimes just throw together what she had and it would become a new favorite. You could ask any one of the “kiddos” what their favorite meal that Grama/Auntie Lou made and every one of them could name a few. We will all miss her specialty, chicken quesadillas and salsa!

A Rosary and mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. We will pray a rosary on Sunday, June 2nd, 6:00 pm at the Kiva Chapel of Light at Rivera Family Funeral Home. 417 Rodeo Rd. Santa Fe, NM. Mass will be celebrated Monday, June 3, 2024, 10:00 a.m. at St. Anne’s Catholic Church with interment at Cementerio de la Agua Fría following the mass. Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons, Tomas and Jeremy. Honorary pallbearers are her granddaughters, Heaven and Jasmine. The family will host a lunch reception at the St. Anne’s Parish Hall immediately following the burial.

The memory of Lucille’s smile will live on in our hearts forever.
