Longtime Taos resident and business owner Luther Holley passed away Tuesday, January 29, 2019, following a long illness.
Mr. Holley was born in 1943, and grew up in Whittier, California, where he was an avid swimmer. He attended Long Beach State University, where he majored in business administration.
After two tours of duty in the infantry in Vietnam, in 1971 he decided to take some time off and go skiing. It was then that he discovered Taos. He became a ski instructor and managed the Sierra del Sol Condominiums in Taos Ski Valley. He also continued to swim, placing seventh in the U.S. Masters National Swimming competition. His weekly volleyball games drew a crowd of locals and fierce but friendly competition.
He started his own business, Holley Mechanical, and spent many years working as a mechanical contractor in the construction industry throughout Taos County.
He has never forgotten his fellow veterans and has contributed to many causes that aid them.
He is survived by his wife, Page Sullivan, and his daughter, Claire Holley. No services are planned at this time.
