Manuel E. "Chief" Lujan – Age 77 a resident of Española passed away on Tuesday, November 29, 2005 following a short illness. He was preceded in death by his parents: Jacobo and Juanita Lujan; brothers: Jacobo Jr., Robert, Richard, Dennis and Filimon Lujan; and mother; father-in-law, Catalino and Chana Ortiz; brother-in-law, Horacio Ortiz; and 2 sisters-in-law: Laura Borrego and Eva Garcia. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Gabie Lujan of Española; brother, Paul Lujan and wife Nancy of Española; sisters: Ida Bustos of Albuquerque and Diolinda Herrera and husband Dennis of Española; really close nieces: Audrey Barela and husband Daniel of Albuquerque and Elaine and Carmella Herrera both of Española; sisters-in-law: Dora Maes and husband Frutoso of Santa Fe, Helen Fresquez and husband Joe of San Pedro and Annabelle Ortiz of Albuquerque; aunt, Elena Vigil; and numerous other relatives and friends. A rosary will be recited on Thursday, December 1, 2005 at 7:00 p.m. at the San Jose Catholic Church in Hernandez. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, December 2, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at the San Jose Catholic Church. Burial will follow at 3:00 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: Benjie and Miguel Trujillo, Mac Herrera, Joe Mascareñas, Daniel Barella and Andrew Trujillo.
