Marcus Manuel Varela May 14, 1997 – March 17, 2017 Our Angel Marcus Manuel Varela has gone to be with our Lord on March 17, 2017. Born May 14, 1997 to Denise Varela. A lifelong resident of Pecos, New Mexico, he is survived by his mother Denise Varela, brother Jacob Varela and sister Emma Varela, Grandparents Ernesto and Erlinda Varela, aunts Ernestine (Brian), Evelyn, uncles Gabriel (Jennifer), Raymond (Erica), Ruben (Anjelica) and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He is preceded in death by Great Grandma Rebecca Quintana, Great Grandpa Eluterio and Great Grandma Louisa Varela, Great uncle Virgil Varela, uncle Johnny Dominic Ortega and cousin Brandon Quintana. Marcus loved all sports. He was involved in track, baseball, football and basketball. He loved his video games, hunting, camping and spending time with family. He graduated from Pecos High School in May 2016 and joined the Army in September 2016. He was assigned to Echo Company, 16th Ordnance Battalion where he was training to be a wheeled vehicle mechanic. Marcus was always making people laugh. His favorite saying was “I’m Batman.” As Marcus would say DO NOT TOUCH THE DART! Serving as pallbearers are Gabriel, Raymond, Ruben, Devin, Johnny, Brian, Ivan and Junior. Honorary Pallbearers are Ernesto, Jacob, Adrian, Louis, Ryan and Isiah. A Visitation will be on Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at 6:00p.m. at St Anthony’s Catholic Church in Pecos, NM, followed by a Rosary at 7:00p.m. A Mass of a Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday March 29, 2017 at 11:00a.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church followed by a Military Burial at the Pecos Cemetery.
