Margaret “Peg” Murphy, age 95, resident of Santa Fe, New Mexico, passed away peacefully on July 25, 2018. She was born on January 2, 1923, in Boston, Massachusetts, and is preceded in death by her father Edward E. Hart and her mother Ida M. Sampson.
Peg is survived by her sons, Paul A. Murphy of Brighton, Michigan, David E. Murphy of Lancaster, Massachusetts and her daughter, Diane M. Atwell (Charles) of Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Peg was born and raised in Boston where she attended secretarial college after graduating from high school. As a young woman, she went to work for The Hoover Company and then to Lever Brothers in Cambridge before marrying and moving to Belmont Massachusetts. She dedicated her life to proudly raising her three children. Peg was a mother not only to her own children, but to all the children in her close-knit neighborhood. It was said that the kids could smell the cookies before she even started baking. In mid-life she returned to work for the Belmont Public Schools as the administrator to the Superintendent where she remained for 25 years. Many beautiful and treasured friendships were made during this time in her life. Upon retirement, Peg embraced traveling to Europe and within the US with her many friends. Later in life, a new chapter opened when she moved to Santa Fe to be near her daughter and once again forged warm and lasting friendships. Known for her faith, kindness, positive outlook, strength of character, love of reading and fabulous style and grace, Peg will be missed by so many who felt her love. The warmth of her smile and the sparkle in her blue eyes will live on in our hearts. She now rests in peace with the souls of her beloved Mother Ida and Aunt Lydia.
