Maria Madalina Guzman, age 94, passed away at home on April 28, 2022, in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was born August 20, 1927 in Taos, New Mexico to Tobias Martinez and Juanna Avila and was the third of five sisters. Growing up on the family ranch, Madalina later married Arculano Guzman.
Madalina’s family was her pride and joy. Starting their family in Brush, Colorado, Madalina raised 9 boys, before moving later to the Capitol Hill area in Salt Lake City. She was a wonderful cook and baker, preparing and sharing her authentic recipes and fresh bread – always ensuring there was food for everyone and that no one left her home hungry. She was the light and life of her home. She loved dancing and being surrounded by family and friends.
Madalina is survived by her sons John, Ernest (Kitty), Tony, George (Barbara), Ben (Debbie), Patrick (Carol), Valentino, and Richard, as well as twenty seven grandchildren and many great and great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arculano; her son, Larry; her parents, Tobias and Juanna; and her sisters, Aurora, Mercedes, Julia, and Maria.
Funeral and Graveside services will be held on Thursday, May 5th at 2 p.m. at Memorial Redwood Mortuary and Cemetery with a viewing the evening of Wednesday, May 4th from 6 to 8 p.m. at the same location.
Internment at Memorial Redwood Mortuary and Cemetery.
