Marilyn A. Bond passed away in her home in Pojoaque on Wednesday morning, August 12, 2009. Marilyn was born in Oakland, California on July 27, 1927, to Ernest R. and Libbie C. Davies. She attended San Francisco Art Academy in the late 40s to pursue her passion for drawing and painting. She moved to Los Alamos in 1952 to try it for a year. She worked for the Laboratory as a draftsman and secretary. It was love at first sight when she met Victor in 1954. They were married in the United Church on December 30, 1954. Marilyn and Victor bought their Pojoaque home in June 1957. While Marilyn loved living in Pojoaque, her heart has always been very connected with Los Alamos, and trying it for a year turned in to loving it for 57 years. Marilyn worked at and managed the Los Alamos Chamber of Commerce from 1964 until 1978, when she retired. As a retiree, she became very involved in the Los Alamos Art Center, and was a volunteer for the Los Alamos Historical Museum. Marilyn and Victor enjoyed traveling by car throughout all areas of the United States, and she enjoyed learning of the history and culture of each place visited. Several trips to Wales introduced her to her fathers family, those associations have been a continual joy to her. Marilyn could best be described as vivacious, energetic, artistic and enthusiastic. Life was her artists palette, and life was an adventure. She had a true love and caring for people, and was genuine in her friendships and associations. She was optimistic and quick to laugh. Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband, Victor, in 2004. She is survived by her children, Steven A. Bond and wife Ellen of Pojoaque; Robin Bond Randolph and her husband John of Bayfield, Colorado; grandchildren Jessica Libbie Wood, Michaela Bond Randolph, John-Isaac Randolph, and Song Li Morris Bond, and one great-grandson, Kaden Wood. A memorial service will be held at the United Church of Los Alamos on Saturday, August 15, at 2:00 p.m.
